ANSWER TO MY FRIEND LESTER ABOUT IMAGES On THE CATHOLIC CHURCH

The verses he cited on this inquiry are the common verses that ANTI-CATHOLICS are using to accuse the CATHOLICS of “IDOL WORSHIPPER”. Let us examine his claims:

Habakkuk 2:19
19 Alas for you who say to the wood, “Wake up!”
    to silent stone, “Rouse yourself!”
    Can it teach?
See, it is gold and silver plated,
and there is no breath in it at all.

        Habakkuk 2:19 (Hebrew-English Bible)

"Woe to him wo says to the wood, Awake! To the dumb stone, Arise! Can it teach? Behold, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in it."

Acts 17:29
29 Since we are God’s offspring, we ought not to think that the deity is like gold, or silver, or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of mortals.

Na ang ibig sabihin ay "like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art".

Sa Greek ang nakasulat ay, "gos oun huprchontes tou theou out opheilomen nomizein chrusO E arguro e Litho Charagmati technEs kai enthuMeseOs anthropou to theion einai"
humoion

Ito ang isinalin mula sa greek,"Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of GOD, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device."(Greek-English)

KITA MO DINAGDAGAN MO ANG TOTOONG NAKASULAT AT GUMAMIT KA NG  TRANSLATION NA MALI!

Romans 1:25
25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.
Isaiah 42:8
I am the Lord, that is my name;
my glory I give to no other,
    nor my praise to idols.

So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that “An idol is nothing at all in the world and that “There is no God but one.” For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many “gods” and many “lords”), yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.

Iyon naman pala. . . ang idol pala ay IN-EXISTING, and PROBLEMA lang sa PAGKAUNAWA MO LESTER AY INIISIP MO NA ANG MGA LARAWAN SA SIMBAHAN AY DIYOS MISMO AS IF WE DON'T RECOGNIZE GOD THE FATHER SON AND THE HOLY SPIRIT WHOM the IMAGES are actually REPRESENTING. This is very far from your UNDERSTANDING that we WORSHIP the IMAGES ITSELF and NOT GOD.

NOW I ONLY HAVE ONE QUESTION TO YOU LESTER AND GOES LIKE THIS:

[Acts 17:29 Since we are God’s offspring, we ought not to think that the deity is like gold, or silver, or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of mortals.]

KUNG WALA AKONG MABASA NAKASULAT NA "IMAGE" OR "EIKÓN" TATANGGAPIN MONG MANLOLOKO AT SINUNGALING ANG LAHAT NG MGA BORN AGAIN?

Now are you STRONG ENOUGH to FACE the CHALLENGE? In your case, I doubt it.

I am so amazed when he forgot to mention the most favorite and common verse that the anti-Catholics are using, the Exodus 20:4-5, but since he did not mention it, I already did the honor to include it. Again, this issue that he is throwing to the Catholic Fold has already been answered long long time ago. It’s just that my friend is not aware of that fact. But for the benefits of his research let us tackle it. As I said this has already been answered and I will just copy paste the answer here of my idol and fellow Apologist Professor Ramon Gitamondok . Original Article

Exodus 20:4-5
You shall not make for yourself an idol, whether in the form of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I theLord your God am a jealous God, punishing children for the iniquity of parents, to the third and the fourth generation of those who reject me,

“One of the common objections we encounter from our non-Catholic friends is on the use of images in worship. They will say that Catholics in using images in their religious worship is guilty of violating the first commandment of the Decalogue (Exodus 20:4-6).In this article, it is my intention to enlighten our protestant brothers on this Catholic belief and practice in the hope that by clarifying certain misconceptions we will be able to draw closer to each other into the unity of faith in which our Lord Jesus himself so earnestly desire (John 17:11).
The biblical verses commonly cited against the Catholic use of images such as Isaiah 42:8; 40:18-20, Deuteronomy 4:15-18, and Exodus 20:4-6 condemns idolatry which is the worship of images as gods or in place of God. This practice which was common among the pagans and in certain occasions was also committed by the Israelites is what God prohibits. Together with our Protestant brothers the Catholic Church also condemns idolatry as a grievous sin against the first commandment. In response to the protestant reformation which denies the use of images in worship the Catholic Church sets down clearly her teaching on this matter in the Council of Trent:
“The images of Christ and of his Virgin Mother and of the other Saints are to be had and retained especially in churches, and a due and honor and veneration is to be given them NOT BECAUSE any virtue or divinity is believed to be in them that for which they are to honored as what the heathens do who placed their hopes in idols BUT BECAUSE the honor which is given them is referred to the originals which they represent..”
Therefore, the Catholic Church does not teach and Catholics do not believe that images have any power, virtue or an ounce of divinity and it is not the image, per se, which is the object of our veneration but the originals which they represent.
Although the Bible condemns idolatry (worship of images as gods) it however permits and even commands the proper use of images in worship. For example in Exodus 25:18-22 God commands Moses: “Make two cherubim of beaten gold for the two ends of the propitiatory, fastening them so that one cherub springs direct from each end. The cherubim shall have their wings spread out above, covering the propitiatory with them; they shall be turned toward each other, but with their faces looking toward the propitiatory. This propitiatory you shall then place on top of the ark. In the ark itself you are to put the commandments which I will give you. There I will meet you and there, from above the propitiatory, between the two cherubim on the ark of the commandments, I will tell you all the commands that I wish you to give the Israelites.”
The temple which King Solomon built and dedicated to God was adorned with sacred images as we can read in Ezequiel 41:17-19. “As high as the lintel of the door, even into the interior part of the temple as well as outside, on every wall on every side in both the inner and outer rooms were carved the figures of cherubim and palm trees: a palm tree between every two cherubim. Each cherub had two faces: a man’s face looking at a palm tree on one side, and a lion’s face looking at a palm tree on the other; thus they were figured on every side throughout the whole temple.”
After the Temple was built God was pleased and sanctified the place of worship for his people as we can read in 2 Chronicles 7:12-16: “The LORD appeared to Solomon during the night and said to him: “I have heard your prayer, and I have chosen this place for my house of sacrifice. If I close heaven so that there is no rain, if I command the locust to devour the land, if I send pestilence among my people, and if my people, upon whom my name has been pronounced, humble themselves and pray, and seek my presence and turn from their evil ways, I will hear them from heaven and pardon their sins and revive their land. Now my eyes shall be open and my ears attentive to the prayer of this place. And now I have chosen and consecrated this house that my name may be there forever; my eyes and my heart also shall be there always.”
Gathering these facts from Scriptures, we can safely conclude that God does not absolutely forbid the use of images in religious worship otherwise God would contradict himself by prohibiting in one part of the Bible what he explicitly commands in another part. Catholics DO NOT worship sacred images for we DO NOT believe that they possess any power in themselves. If despite this some people will still continue to ascribe to us beliefs and practices which we also condemn and abhor then they should also remember another commandment of the Decalogue: “Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor.”

ANSWER TO MY FRIEND LESTER ABOUT MATTHEW 6:7-8 -VAIN REPETITIONS

Another inquiry from my friend Lester is the Mathew 6:7-8 wherein for him is the evidence that the Catholic prayers are invalid (he is talking about the Rosary where all the prayers are repeatedly citing).

Again let us read the particular verse that he cited.

Mt 6:7-8 (KJV)
But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

In this particular verse he is accusing the Catholic prayers as invalid and unbiblical. For him praying the same prayer is against the teaching of the Bible. But once again this newly convert Born Again sect member is ignorant of the real context of the verse. He reads the passage a little too quickly.
Jesus isn't condemning repetition in prayer but rather He’s condemning “VAIN PRAYER”.

When Jesus said, "use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking" (Matthew 6:7, NAB), He was referring to a belief of the pagans that a god would not listen to your prayer unless you used his correct title, and the title would change every day. Thus, the pagans would begin their prayer with every title they could think of in order to make sure their prayers would be heard (e.g., "O Great Zeus, O Master of Olympia, O Great Father Zeus. . . .") Jesus tells us this is vain because pagan gods don’t exist, and when we pray to God he hears all our prayers. We don’t have to worry about getting the right title.

In fact, Scripture gives us many examples of repetitive prayer. For example, in Matthew 26:36–46, Jesus prayed the same prayer three times. In Revelation 4:8, four living creatures are around and within the throne, and day and night they do not cease to say, "Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty." And then there’s the tax collector in Luke 18:9–14 who is beating his breast repeatedly and praying, "God, be merciful to me, a sinner!" And let’s not forget Luke 11:1–4, where Jesus tells us how to pray: He gives us the Lord’s Prayer. Since most Christians pray the Lord’s Prayer from time to time, they are all "guilty" of repetitious prayer. But it is not vain prayer—after all; we merely are doing as Jesus taught us.

Any prayer can be prayed in vain. What makes a prayer efficacious is the attitude of the heart (cf. CCC 2559). And sadly, "If our heart is far from God, the words of prayer are in vain" (CCC 2562; cf. Matt. 15:8–9).
-----------------------------------------------------
He also cited Philippians 4:6 where he interprets as a definition of prayer, the passage reads as:

Philippians 4:6 (NIV)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

I don’t have to argue with him regarding the verse for I totally agree with that Bible verse.

-----------------------------------------------------

I will just add the explanation of my friend Lay (one of my great apologetic adviser) in my article. The explanation was written in Tagalog so it would be very understandable by all.

"And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words."(Matthew 6:7, The Interlinear Bible, Greek/English)

Because Matthew is the first book in the New Testament and the New Testament was Written in Greek.

Let us check this out...

In Greek:

proseuchomenoi de mE battologEsEte Hosper hoi ethnikoi dokousin gar hoti en tE polulogia autOn eisakousthEsontai

In the Greek scripture the word used is "battologEsEte".

The verb battologeo means to "stutter."

According to www.freedictionary.com (Stutter - A speech disorder characterized by spasmodic repetition of the initial consonant.)

The bible clearly states that This type of prayer is found in Hosea 7:14.

"They have not prayed to me sincerely, but instead they throw themselves down and wail as the heathen do. When they pray for grain and wine, they gash themselves like pagans. What rebels they are!"(Hosea 7:14)

-nothing follows-

Thanks a lot Bro. Lay for your wonderful explanations. I hope this helped my friend Lester to understand what he is talking about.

ANSWER TO THE PRIVATE INTERPRETATION OF MY FRIEND LESTER TO LUKE 11:27-28

It was a Sunday afternoon of April 14, 2013 when I received a text messages from my old friend Lester who happened to be a newly convert to Born Again cult from the only Church founded by Jesus the Catholic Church (Mt 16:18). At first I didn’t expect that the reason behind his greetings is to have a little religious discussion with me.

Btw, to give you an overview Lester was a former Catholic from the beautiful island of Surigao. He used to be very critic to the Catholic Church even before His conversion to his newly established religious organization.

He started the discussion by asking me if I’m still a member of Roman Catholic Church.
With full of proud I said yes, I even added that I don’t have plans to get away from the TRUE CHRUCH founded by Jesus.

I waited for his reply but unfortunately he didn’t reply for the next few hours.

It’s already around 10PM when he replied saying he run out of prepaid credit on his account. I told him, I am attending Mass but he never mind it and sent all his inquiries, accusations and anger to the Catholic Church.  Good thing is that the mass is almost over and just listening to the announcements so I keep on replying to his text messages and there we had a simple discussion.
First text: (First Topic)

In this text message, He is pointing out that the intercession to the Mother of God the Son Jesus is prohibited in the bible by citing Luke 11:27-28, actually the verse is not about intercession to Mary, let us read the scripture:

27 As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.”
28 He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

In this verse he is interpreting this as:

“We can be blessed than Mary herself if we will only follow God in the name of His Son Jesus”

His private interpretation of the scripture is no longer an issue to the Catholic Church for it has been answered and corrected long long time ago and since my idol and former Born Again member Atty. Marwill Lasos already has an article about this I will based my answer from his piece. (original article)

In the Catholic Church, we have always considered Luke 11:27-28 as a text that blesses Mary but for my old friend Lester, on the other hand considers the text as rebuking Marian devotion. He is even go as much as claiming that they [the born again members] are more blessed than Mary because of what Luke 11:27-28 says. This anti-Catholic couldn't be more wrong.
"Blessed is the womb that bore you" (Lk. 11:27a).
The New International Version renders Luke 11:27-28 this way:
“As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.” He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
The authorized King James Version renders it:
“And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.”

Anti-Catholics like my friend Lester take “rather” to mean as a particle of contradiction. They say, “No, Mary is not blessed; rather blessed are they …” It is in that sense that the New American Standard Version renders Luke 11:27-28, thus:
“While Jesus was saying these things, one of the women in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, “Blessed is the womb that bore You and the breasts at which You nursed.” But He said, On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it.”
"Blessed are the breasts that nursed you" (Lk. 11:27b)

Not only Lester but all Anti-Catholics are quick to point out that the "rather" in Luke 11:28 means "on the contrary." This, they say, is a clear proof that Jesus rebukes Marian devotion. With this verse, anti-Catholics are confident that they have shattered to pieces the Catholic case for Marian devotion. They interpret the passage to mean that those who hear the word of God and keep it are much more blessed than Mary (as if Mary herself did not hear the word of God and keep it). But is this interpretation of the text correct? No, it is not. The Greek word used for “rather” in Luke 11:28 is “menoun”:
“autos de eipen menoun makarioi hoi akouontes ton logon tou theou kai phulassontes”
"Blessed are those who hear the word of God" (Lk. 11:28a)

There are various translations of the word menoun. The King James Version translates it as "yea rather" while the Revised Standard Version renders it as "indeed." The Douay-Rheims Version renders it as "furthermore."
How then is “menoun” to be understood? Protestant Bible scholar Margaret E. Thrall studied Greek particles in the New Testament. This scholar cannot be accused of bias toward the Catholic position. Yet, in her study, she suggests the interpretation of “menoun” in Luke 11;27-28 as: “What you have said is true as far as it goes. But the blessedness of Mary does not consist simply in the fact of her relationship towards myself, but (menoun) in the fact that she shares in the blessedness of those who hear the word of God and keep it, and it is in this that true blessedness lies” [Margaret E. Thrall, Greek Particles in the New Testament (Grand Rapids, Michigan: Eerdmans, 1962) p. 35].

"... and keep it" (Lk. 11:28b)
The passage, far from downplaying Marian devotion, in fact reinforces it. Jesus makes it clear that Mary is actually "doubly blessed" for being His Mother and for hearing the word of God and keeping it.
Mary is certainly blessed for being the Mother of Our Lord Jesus Christ, as affirmed by the Bible when St. Elizabeth praised her as "most blessed among women" precisely because of the "blessed fruit of her womb"(Lk. 1:42, NJB). Mary is furthermore blessed because she heard the word of God: "Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it done unto me according to thy word" (Lk. 1:38). Mary believed the word of God (and even conceived the Word of God Himself!) as clearly testified to by St. Elizabeth under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit: "Blessed is she who believed" (Lk. 1:45). Mary kept the word of God as she "kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart" (Lk. 2: 19, 51).

Mary, Mother of the Word Incarnate
Christians cannot be “blessed” in the sense of any physical or blood relationship with Christ as Mary had with her Son. But we can be surely blessed as Mary was if we, like her, hear the word of God and keep it.

"But be you doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves" (James 1:22)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Additionally my Spiritual Brother further explain the verse as below:

Thanks a lot Brother Lay.

Why We Should Celebrate Valentines Day?

Why We Should Celebrate Valentines Day? an ASWER to the "Shocking Truth About Valentines Day!"

Valentine's Day would not be complete without Cupid --- (Wrong!)

"But if you keep his word, God's love is made complete in you. This is how we know that we are in him:" (1 John 2:5)

We are speaking of Cupid, the God of Love --- (Wrong!)

“Those who do not love have not known God, for God is love.” (1 John 4:8)

Sa Kanya Dapat humingi ng IDEAL Man or IDEAL Woman at Hindi kay Cupid...

"House and wealth are inherited from a father but a sensible wife is a gift from GOD."(Proverbs 19:14)

It is said that if Cupid shoots his arrow of love and hits
you, that you will fall helplessly and madly in love with the
next person you meet. --- (Wrong!)

Matthew 6:33 “Set your heart first on the kingdom and justice of God and all these things will also be given to you.”

SET YOUR HEART FIRST ON THE KINGDOM and JUSTICE of GOD (Ibigay mo muna ang Puso mo sa Diyos bago sa magiging partner mo sa iyong buhay)

"This is the covenant that I will make with them in the days to come - says the Lord - I will put my laws in their hearts and write them on their minds.” (Hebrews 10:16)

In Roman mythology, Cupid is the son of Venus, the
goddess of love. In greek mythology, he was known as
Eros and was the son of Aphrodite. ---(Wrong!)

"My dear children, keep yourselves from idols."(1 John 5:21)
